There is no doubt that we all need to make changes in order to have an impact on climate change and the best place to start is in our very own homes. Although unfortunately, some of the most effective changes come at a cost, which not all of us have the resources to fund. However, there is hope with the launch of the Australian Government's new scheme, Green loans.
The Government's Green Loans initiative helps Australians to tackle climate change in their home by giving them access to a free home sustainability assessment and report, as well as assisting them with access to an interest free loan to install solar, water saving, and energy efficient products.
The Home Sustainability Assessment and report is valued at over $250 and is carried out by a government-accredited assessor. The consultant will provide you with advice on a number of strategies to make your home more sustainable in a complete assessment report.
With this advice you may than wish to apply for the Green Loans subsidy through a participating financial institution, for a 4 year interest free loan of up to $10,000, to implement changes recommended in the assessment report.
The Program commenced on 1 July 2009 giving Australians access to 75,000 of these loans available over just 5 years, so get in quick!
